Sizing & Removal
Prep & Application
“Note down nail sizes in order of thumb to pinky, making sure to label each list either Right or Left, as all 10 nails may be different sizes”
Removal
• Soak the nails in warm, soapy water.
• Use a cuticle stick to carefully remove the press-ons.
(If the glue is stubborn, I recommend soaking the nails in intervals, using the cuticle stick in between.)
• Once the Press-ons have been removed, dry your nails and gently buff away any left over glue from your natural nails.
Step 1: Prep your natural nails
1. Remove old product:
Take off any polish, gel, or leftover glue so the surface is clean.
2. Trim and shape:
Clip and file your nails short and neat so the press-ons sit securely.
3. Push back cuticles:
Gently push back cuticles so no skin is under the press-on—this helps prevent lifting.
4. Buff the surface:
Lightly buff the nail plate to remove shine; this gives the glue the ability to grip the surface for stronger adhesion.
5. Clean with alcohol:
Wipe each nail with alcohol/dehydrator to remove oils and dust. Let the nail dry completely.
Step 2: Size and lay out the nails
1. Match sizes:
Hold each press-on over your nail to make sure each nail fits correctly. If the nail is too large, gently file the sides to desired size.
2. Lay them out in order:
Arrange them from thumb to pinky for both hands so application is quick and you’re not fumbling with sizes mid‑glue.
Step 3: Decide glue vs adhesive tabs
• Glue:
Best for: Longer wear (up to 1–2+ weeks with good prep).
• Adhesive tabs:
Best for: Short-term wear (events, weekends) and easier removal.
You can also combine a thin layer of glue with a tab for extra hold, but that makes removal a bit trickier
Step 4: Apply with nail glue
1. Add glue to your nail:
Apply a thin, even layer over your natural nail—avoid flooding the cuticles.
2. Add a dot to the press-on (optional):
A small dot in the center of the press-on can help prevent air bubbles and improve adhesion.
3. Press and hold:
Place the press-on starting near the cuticle (a tiny gap, not touching skin), then roll it down to the tip. Hold firmly for 20–30 seconds, keeping pressure on the whole nail.
4. Repeat for all nails:
Work from one hand to the other, usually starting with your non‑dominant hand
Applying with adhesive tabs (if using)
1. Choose the right tab size:
Stick the tab onto your natural nail, pressing out any air bubbles.
2. Peel off the film:
Remove the top layer so the sticky surface is exposed.
3. Press on the nail:
Align near the cuticle, press down, and hold firmly for 20–30 seconds.
4. Check edges:
Make sure all edges are sealed—press around the sides and tip.
Shape and finish
1. File to your liking:
Once all nails are on, gently file the tips to smooth any rough edges or adjust the shape.
2. Avoid contact with moisture.
Avoid soaking your hands for at least 1–2 hours after application; this helps the glue set and last longer.
3. Add cuticle oil (later):
After the nails are fully set, you can apply cuticle oil around (not under) the nails for a polished look.
Quick longevity tips
• Keep nails dry before application: No lotion or oils beforehand.
• Press firmly at the edges: lifting starts at the sides and cuticle.
• Wear gloves for chores: Especially when washing dishes or using cleaning products.
Frequently asked questions
Here at Beauty By Madds, we believe in perfection from start to finish. Our luxury press-on nails are designed for ease of use and stunning results. Learn how to achieve a professional look right at home with our expert advice.
What's the best way to measure my nails for the right press-on size?
You'll need a flexible tape measure or a piece of tape. Measure from sidewall to sidewall of each nail. If using tape, mark each sidewall with a pen on the tape. Then, flatten out the tape and measure against a ruler. Note down each nail size from thumb to little finger. Make sure to do all 10 fingers, as nail sizes may differ between hands.
How do i make sure my press-on nails last as long as possible?
Avoid submerging your hands in water for at least 1-2 hours after application. This allows the glue sufficient time to completely dry and create a strong bond. If a nail needs to be reapplied, it's important to file away any glue remaining on both your natural nail and the press-on before reapplying to ensure proper adhesion.
Are there any special tips for making my press-ons look great?
For the most natural and lasting look, ensure your nail sizes are correct for each nail. Once applied, gently press down on each nail for a few seconds to secure it. Avoid strenuous activities with your hands immediately after application to give the adhesive time to set properly you can apply cuticle oil to avoid the look of dry, unhealthy nails.
